When To Run Faster

Manila American Cemetery & Memorial
July 31, 2010

Finished college with flying colors.

Got a high-paying job.

Can afford travel, leisure or, maybe, even just about anything.

Keeps friends of the same kind.

And thinks she/he knows just about everything.

Smart ass, huh?! Yes!

We bite the bait we throw to ourselves all the time.  Just because we have education, money, friends, and relationships we become too complacent with these security blankets with which we have covered ourselves. We can fabricate the truth about our pride and self-righteousness with the act of coming to God during our occasional setbacks; and God, as faithful and forgiving as He is, will rescue us. The rest of our other accomplishments? We give all the credits to ourselves.

Apart from God, we can do nothing. (John 15:5b)

Run to God when you don’t know what to do but run to Him faster when you think you know what to do. It is when we think that we can do things on our own that we become exposed to wrong decisions, misleading roads and sugarcoated truths. Our human hearts and minds can only fathom so much. His thoughts are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:9) and farther than what our opinions can bring us to. He sees the future and we can vaguely see even the present.

He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and unrighteous (Matthew 5:45) Who are we to take all the credits?
