Attraversiamo 2011: 3rd Layover, Destination Zambales

Attraversiamo 2011:
Crossing Over to Escape Manila

Capones , Zambales
3rd Layover, Destination Zambales
May 21-22, 2011

April was about to end then, and so was summer. Phil (a very good friend of mine) and I got scared of the thought that summer will pass without a trip to a beach.  We didn't have the time to prepare for it so the easiest way is to sign up for a group travel package again (like our Sagada trip).

Almost a month before the scheduled trip, we signed up for a travel to Anawangin & Capones Zambales.

This was a simple trip compared to the other trips we’ve involved ourselves into. ‘Simple’ in the sense that there are not many activities in this trip; we did what we came there to do – SWIM, GET WET, BE KISSED BY THE SUN.

Photo grabbed from Phil. On our way to Capones.

Capones

The coves are only accessible by a boat ride. Our boat brought us first to Capones Cove. It has very clear water and sparkling big white rocks. It was just a little disappointing to see the Capones cove shore not maintained very well. I really hope there is someone in charge because it would be such a waste if it will not be taken care of. It is, indeed, beautiful

We experienced the Capones Lighthouse view. I wanted to go up because I know that the view of the island is going to be more awesome when seen from above. I wasn’t disappointed.

Capones

After Capones Cove, we went for another boat ride going to Anawangin Cove.

Anawangin Cove, Zambales

Anawangin is a sight to see even from afar. I actually felt like one can only get the best view of Anawangin from afar. Just when your boat is about to approach the island; you will see the shape of the cove, the tall pine trees which seemed to form a line to greet their visitors, how the sea touches the shore, the kids playing, the colorful tents, the smoke coming from the barbecue grills and the rays of the sun. It was a perfect view. I wished I could stop the boat for a few minutes just to enjoy the view.

Anawangin Cove, Zambales

It was summer so it is expected that the cove is jam-packed. There’s almost no space for new tents which supported my idea of signing up for pre-arranged travels .It gives you guaranteed spaces. Wise!

The sun was raging but we went swimming anyway so you could imagine how red we became after.

Anawangin and Capones can be best experienced during summer and with not many visitors. I just don’t know how exactly you can get both. Ha!

We went home satisfied. We swam, got wet and were kissed by the sun.

Until next summer!

Mother: Animal in solitude

Mother: Animal in Solitude

NAME: Mother

DATE TAKEN: 02.07.2010

LOCATION: Mandaluyong City, PH

DETAILS: “Mother” is a feral near the house I used to live in. I got her spayed through PAWS so she doesn’t produce unwanted babies anymore. The last time I saw her was when I fed her before I left the country for a business trip. Her left eye was all red here, she was probably kicked by some heartless human. I hope she is still alive.

POST-PROCESS: Yes, but I don’t remember exactly what I did. I am never well-versed with Photoshop. L Watermark created by my brother. I wanted to change the size but I am not sure how to re-create the effect I already did. I suck at editing!

Why Your Support for PsorRocks! Is Critical By Josef De Guzman

Why Your Support for PsorRocks! Is Critical

By Josef De Guzman

We were a small group of 5 people with psoriasis who only wanted a venue to vent out our frustrations, share our dreams and articulate our hopes. Subsequently, an online support group for Filipinos with psoriasis was born Psoriasis Philippines.

I still remember a call from a stranger regarding his female friend who, because of severe depression, was about to take her life because her family do not understand why she acquired lesions on her skin. They thought she was cursed. [However, scientific studies say that having psoriasis may be attributed to genetic predisposition.] Out of fear that she might infect them, her family drove her away. That was Christmas time, six years ago.

It was the turning point of our advocacy. Soon we were extending support to many psoriasis sufferers who were on the verge of committing suicide. Notably, more women sufferers have a tendency towards ending their life. Psoriasis Philippines continues to be instrumental in averting suicides among Filipinos living with psoriasis.

Psoriasis Philippines advocacy brought us to face several issues that are mostly discriminatory.

Take the case of Ana (not her real name), 15 years old. Ana had to quit school because of Psoriasis. She gets tired of being humiliated because her skin is rough.
·         Jenny (not her real name), is a young single mother who needs to work extra hard because her husband left her. This was after he told her that he can no longer bear to touch her.
·         A pastor who had lesions on her face was not allowed to board the plane. Psorphil backed her up in bringing this matter to the court.
·         Mary (not her real name) was driven out of the swimming pool because the staff of the resort fears she may infect other customers.
·         Bianca (not her real name) was a young nursing student who was ill-advised by her dean to quit school because of her psoriasis.
If the 2 million Filipinos suffering from Psoriasis will stop hiding and defy the stigma, this list can go on and on.

Having psoriasis is tough. It robs us of the very essence of our existence. And overcoming the discrimination that we face on a daily basis is no mean feat.

Psorphils advocacy has brought us to the most remote parts of the country trying to educate the people on the grass roots level about this condition. Our hope is that one day, all psoriasis sufferers can live normally without fear of being judged and discriminated.

We can only do so much right now. However, we need help to sustain our programs and projects that are aimed to improve the quality of life of our co-sufferers. But unfortunately, it is taking its toll on our volunteers and members who are already spending their own money just to push our advocacy.

On August 20, 2011, we are putting up a concert at the Baypark Area, Service Road of Roxas Boulevard (near Raha Sulayman plaza) billed as PsorRocks to raise funds to ensure that our projects can go on. Several popular bands playing are for free to support us: CallaLily, Slapshock, 6 Cycle Mind, Cueshe, Even, General Luna, GraceNote, Kenyo, Up Darma Down and others. Party music will be played by DJ Buddah after the concert. We seek the support of everyone to allow us to continue our goal of serving the Filipino Psoriasis sufferers. Hope to see you at the concert.
