Beyond Beyond

On the third session of The Yoghurt Brigade, we jump-started the 5-part series, The Prayer.  It aims to dive deep into The Lord's Prayer and learn from it. There is more to it than a memorized prayer.

Here is the New International Version of The Lord's Prayer

Our Father in Heaven

Hallowed be Your name
Your Kingdom come
Your will be done
On earth as it is in Heaven
Give us today our daily bread
And forgive us our debts
As we also have forgiven our debtors
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from the evil one.

The first session concentrates on the first two lines. The Message version of the Bible states:

Our Father in Heaven
Reveal who You are

This was a chance to talk about the greatness of God in our lives; how He reveals Himself in every situation we go through even in the dark days.

We were asked of three adjectives to describe who He has been and still is in our lives. I wrote:

1. Gracious - Amazing Grace is more than just a song. It is a testimony of who God is. We don't deserve His grace yet we are given a lot every day. It's funny that even in coming to Him, we need His grace to be able to do it. To wake up in the morning, to be able to sleep at night, to feel pain and hunger and still find the will to move on; these and a  lot more are merely because of His unwavering grace.

2. Forgiving -  Humans can forgive but will never forget. We can forgive one person but once that person does the same offence old grudges will surface, pain will come back adn forgiving becomes more difficult.

It's a different story with our Father. When he forgives, He forgives completely. Everything in the past is completely forgotten. When we come to Him and sincerely ask for forgiveness, You will get it. This, I believe, also comes out of His grace.

3. Indescribable - As I was down to one more adjective I found myself having difficulty to decide which. I should write all-powerful, or amazing, or fatherly, or genius until I can no longer decide which; I wrote indescribable

No human mind can ever fathom who God is. Just when you think you already know Him, He reveals himself in a more glorious form. He cannot be boxed and limited into three adjectives. Adjectives are not even enough to fully describe Him. He goes beyond words, beyond human understanding, beyond beyond.

Who is God to you?
